RE Mike Vick: We Don't Need To Alter Our Natural Hair To Make White People Comfortable

Another day, another coon shuckin and jivin for White people. When will #AfroHair get a break?

Incase you have been living under a rock, early this week Mike Vick made an ignorant comment regarding Colin's Kaepernick situation with the NFL. In an interview Vick had with FOX Sports, he suggested that Kaepernick afro is the cause of is unemployment:

"The first thing we got to get Colin to do is cut his hair, I don’t think he should represent himself in that way in terms of the hairstyle. Just go clean cut? Perception and image is everything. I love the guy to death, but I want him to succeed on and off the field, and this has to be a start for him.”

[Pause!!!!] I cannot believe Mike Vick made this statement. Is he suffering from amnesia? This is coming from the same guy who was drafted and played in the NFL with cornrows, yet he opens his mouth to say Colin's hair is the cause of his unemployment...oh please! If Mike Vick was able to play with cornrows, hair is definitely not the cause of Kaepernick's problems.

Mike Vick comment was dull-witted. It did nothing but justify western ideology that believe afro-texture hair is unprofessional and is associated with deviant behavior (as if Colin did anything deviant). We get it, for long Black people had to choose between keeping their jobs and afros, but that does not mean we should bow down to such ultimatums for the sake of making another person comfortable. How about telling White people to accept the natural and God-given look of Black people. Instead, Vick and others like him find boldness in telling people of color to assimilate into western looks.

The word ignorant has be thrown around, but Vick's comment was indeed ignorant. It ignored the real reason behind Kaepernick's unemployment and euphamize his plight. Kaepernick is not unemployed because of his afro. He is unemployed for standing up for the rights of the oppressed who have been mistreated by a corrupt justice system.

Mike Vick should be the last person talking. After the drama he experienced with the NFL for dog fighting, you would think an ounce of understanding would be in Vick's blood. People could have prejudged him as a thug because cornrows are ignorantly attributed to thuggery, yet Vick was still able to play in the NFL with cornrows until he got in trouble with the NFL. So why bring up hair?

Be supportive but don't bring Kaepernick down with a solution you think is the solution to his problems. How about confronting the NFL for taking away Kaepernick's first amendment rights? I bet you won't do that. This cooning spirit lots of Black athletes seem to be plagued with must be eradicated. It is their ignorant responses to social justice that influence people to ignore the social issues in America.
