Are We Going To Uplift Or Destroy Halle Berry?

The ridiculing backlash Halle Berry is receiving because of her afro is one of the reasons why some Black women have second thoughts about going natural.

Yesterday Halle Berry appeared at the Oscars rocking a hairstyle she barely rocks; the afro. Unfortunately the finishing product which took her hairstylist two weeks to design, did not come out in an appealing way. Immediately people took to social media to mock Halle Berry.
According to Berry's hairstylist, the afro was achieved using Berry's natural texture as a base. He detailed the look with a curling iron and cut off five inches creating an asymmetrical afro. It was a new look Halle Berry was shooting for, which she felt comfortable in.

Seeing the unnecessary backlash hit home. Halle Berry had a situation every natural girl and woman will or has experienced at least five times in this journey. And instead of uplift her, people threw her under the bus for embracing her crown. I then put myself in her shoes and almost shed a tear. I wondered how I would feel if people laughed at me those times I had a horrible twist-out. For sure I would not like it which is why the responses bothered me. he one person to surprise me was Luvvie Ajayi. As a former dread head she should be the last one making fun of Halle Berry knowing the ridule she received for having dreadlocks

To the people who are responding to Berry's hairstyle, if your response is not uplifting you are wrong. Instead of negatively talk about her afro, how about we present hair-styling techniques? What happen to being my sister's keeper. Of course people are hiding behind "I am not against the afro, I am against the style." Well, how would you like it if you became a laughing stock on your bad hair days? Saying she look like Rachel Dolezal or her hair resembles a bird's nest is not having an opinion, it is ridicule.

Unfortunately the attacks on her hair perpetuate an idea that has prevented some Black women in and outside of Hollywood from embracing their crown especially in a way she uniquely chooses.
